Position Overview
Easter Seals Ontario seeks a Resource Nurse who exemplifies accountability, attention to detail, and integrity. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Recreation, the Resource Nurse will be a hands-on direct resource responsible for the overall wellbeing of our campers and staff during the summer season. In addition, support as needed to the organization on various medical, occupational health or preventative initiatives.

Responsibilities
Recreation
Coaching and Training
- Recreation Healthcare Team (January – September)
- Facilitate and oversee comprehensive training and educational sessions for healthcare and program staff during the preseason, ensuring all team members are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for their roles.
- Provide hands-on site supervision and management throughout the summer camp season to ensure adherence to best practices in care delivery and to address any emerging challenges promptly.
- Act as an effective leader and mentor, offering personalized guidance to healthcare team members. Focus on professional development, helping them enhance their skills and supporting their progress toward achieving individual career goals within Easter Seals Ontario (ESO).
- Lead the ongoing review and enhancement of Nursing Training Material and the Policies and Procedures Manual, ensuring that all resources reflect up-to-date standards of care, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This includes:
- Incorporating feedback from previous camp seasons to address gaps or inefficiencies.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure the content is accurate and relevant.
- Distributing updated materials and conducting sessions to familiarize staff with the revisions.
Program Administration
- Camper Applications
- Conduct thorough reviews of all camper applications to identify medical concerns or areas requiring additional information.
- Proactively follow up with families as needed to address any medical details, ensuring clarity and readiness for camp participation.
- Care Planning
- Participate actively in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized multidisciplinary care plans to meet the unique needs of each camper.
- Collaborate with families and healthcare professionals to ensure care plans are comprehensive, practical, and aligned with campers’ abilities and goals.
- Summer Deployment
- Serve as a working nurse during the summer camp season, providing hands-on guidance and leadership to the Healthcare Team and front-line staff.
- Act as a resource for troubleshooting, decision-making, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, while fostering a positive and supportive environment for staff and campers alike.
Human Resources Administrative Support
- Recruitment
- Assist in the recruitment of healthcare team members for the summer camping season, ensuring roles are filled with qualified and passionate individuals aligned with Easter Seals Ontario’s mission.
- Active Recruiting Initiatives
- Lead and participate in active recruiting efforts, including facilitating presentations, organizing meet-and-greet sessions, and attending job fairs and recruitment events at universities, colleges, and community organizations.
- Develop partnerships with local organizations and networks to attract diverse and skilled candidates.
- Onboarding Support
- Oversee and manage the onboarding process for healthcare team members, ensuring a seamless transition into their roles.
- Provide comprehensive orientation sessions and initial training to familiarize new staff with policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Ongoing Team Engagement
- Participate in team meetings to offer insights and strategies for improving recruitment processes and enhancing team engagement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture by providing ongoing support and encouragement to healthcare staff throughout their employment.

Services
Program Support
- Consultation and Eligibility Support
- Provide specialized consultation and educational support to managers, assisting with program eligibility criteria and reviewing application forms to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Act as a resource for program-related inquiries, offering guidance to streamline processes and enhance program accessibility.
- Team Collaboration
- Actively participate in team meetings, contributing insights and suggestions to improve program effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members and provide input on strategies to enhance the delivery of services and outcomes for families.
- Application Review
- Review applications thoroughly, identifying potential medical concerns, and following up with team members and/or families to clarify details and ensure readiness for program participation.
Training
- Orientation and Skills Development
- Prepare, coordinate, and deliver orientation sessions and targeted training focused on program-specific skills such as managing the Incontinence Grant and ESO Equipment Funding.
- Develop and implement training materials to support the professional development of team members.
- Education on Disabilities
- Facilitate educational sessions on disabilities and diagnoses for the services team, enhancing their understanding and capacity to provide informed, compassionate support to families.
Other Duties
- Team Collaboration
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with team members across Easter Seals Ontario, contributing to a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
- Provide support as needed to ensure organizational goals are met effectively and efficiently.
Health and Safety
Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Serve as an active JHSC member and co-chair, attending quarterly meetings to review workplace safety protocols, identify potential risks, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with committee members to develop and implement initiatives that promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Training
- Act as an ongoing resource for the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, providing expertise and support for occupational health initiatives and preventative training measures.
- Design and deliver training programs tailored to enhance staff awareness and compliance with health and safety standards.
- Stay updated on health and safety best practices and communicate relevant updates to staff and management.
Other Duties
Non-Occupational Accommodation Plans
- Assist Human Resources in developing and reassessing non-occupational accommodation plans for personnel, ensuring that individual needs are met in compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.
- Provide recommendations for adjustments to ensure the accommodation process remains fair, inclusive, and effective.
- Collaboration Across Teams.
- Work collaboratively with team members across Easter Seals Ontario to integrate health and safety considerations into broader organizational strategies and operations.
- Promote a culture of safety and inclusivity by engaging colleagues in proactive discussions and solutions.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse Certification
- Hold a current and valid registration as a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Driver’s License and Transportation
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable access to a vehicle for travel as required.
Organizational and Interpersonal Skills
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational abilities and the capacity to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Be a team player with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, alongside a strong customer service orientation.
Technical Proficiency
- Exhibit proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Word) and the ability to work efficiently on virtual collaboration platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.
Background Check
- Obtain clearance from a police background check, including a vulnerable sector screening, to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.

- Previous camping experience would be highly beneficial, especially in a leadership or healthcare role. Additionally, mandatory participation in the OCA Healthcare Committee is required, offering opportunities to contribute to healthcare initiatives in the camp environment.
- Experience with Complex Care Needs
- You have hands-on experience working with children and youth with physical disabilities and complex care needs, ensuring you are well-equipped to address the unique challenges of this population.
- Willingness to Travel
- You are open to travel to engage with stakeholders regarding service delivery. This may involve attending meetings or visiting our camp locations near London and Perth, Ontario to ensure that programs are meeting the needs of our campers and stakeholders.

- You have a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain respectful and professional relationships with key stakeholders, including managers, funders, contractors, executive colleagues, outside agencies, children, youth, and their families, as well as multi-disciplinary teams.

Hours of Work & Working Conditions
- Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2-3 days in office (during camping off-season), including occasional weekend and evening work as needed.
