Overview
At Easter Seals Ontario, we provide overnight camping opportunities for kids and young adults with physical disabilities. Each summer we welcome staff from all over the world and pride ourselves on providing an awesome pre-camp training, so our staff are equipped with all the skills they need to give our campers a great experience. Our camps make many traditional summer camp activities accessible and inclusive, such as swimming, boating, archery, high ropes, and more! Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Camp Photographer/ Social Media Counsellor is responsible for capturing photographs and videos of the Camp experience. This includes taking action, candid, and landscape photos and videos that follow media guidelines outlined by the Communications Department. The Photographer ensures that all campers are photographed, photos and videos are reviewed, and media is organized and uploaded on regular basis in a secure fashion. They must be aware of the media consent status of campers and ensures that specific photo requests are secured. The camp Photographer works closely with the Virtual Camp Team in creating engaging and appropriate content for inclusion in our Virtual Camp program.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Develop program goals following the Easter Seals Ontario camp goals & objectives.
- Responsible for completing an inventory upon arrival and prior to departure from camp.
- Maintain proper care of the equipment and supplies. Report any necessary repairs to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Ensure that photos taken are in line with the standards set by Easter Seals Ontario.
- Work closely with the Virtual Camp Team and Camp Life Coordinator to generate consistently high-quality content for banquet slideshow, session photos for families, and recorded content for the Virtual Camp Site.
- Engage with campers and provide camper care when not performing other duties. This includes assisting with bathing, showering, brushing teeth, hair care, dressing, toileting (changing incontinence pads), clean intermittent catheterization, feeding, lifting and transferring, and any other activities of daily living. Training for these activities is provided during pre-camp orientation.
- Be an active participant in the camp community.
- Roam during arrival day and take photographs of families checking in.
- Create and execute weekly schedules to ensure all camp sections are photographed equally at camp.
- Plan and create a camper and staff slide show for each session as a memento of the summer.
- In addition to responsibilities the successful candidate will be required to produce short videos of daily camp activities that will be posted on the Easter Seals Ontario website by the ESO Communications department.
- Organize/sort photos into files for offseason marketing purposes.
- Adhere to and support all camp policies, procedures and guidelines as detailed in the Camp Resource Manual.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Recreation Counsellor or Communications Team.
Physical Aspects of the Job
- Ability to communicate and work with groups and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Excellent time-management, scheduling, and reporting skills.
- Ability to observe camper and staff behaviour and apply appropriate behaviour-support techniques, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and lead emergency procedures.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Able to manage lifting, some bending, stooping, and stretching as well as daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum age: 18 years.
1+ years of photography and media content creation experience. Camp experience is an asset. Applicants selected for an interview will be required to provide a portfolio of 25+ photos and/or media content creation pieces. Familiarity with programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office Suite, and Apple iMovie are preferred.
Other Considerations
- Easter Seals Ontario camps are accessible and provide camping experiences to kids and young adults with disabilities.
- Must provide clear background check.
- It is required that all staff be fully vaccinated against Covid19 and follow the health and safety recommendations provided by Provincial and Regional Health Units.
- Camp staff members are required to participate fully in the camp activities. This may include swimming every day, sailing, dressing-up and working with children/youth all day.
- Should be capable of lifting and transferring 15 – 25 kgs in a safe manner.
- Onsite housing provided for camping season and meals provided on camp session days.
- June – August eight-day work period, 24 hours/day on call with scheduled breaks throughout the day and three days off between sessions.
